Artillery can be placed on any flat 3x3 surface. If it is on uneven terrain or blocked, it cannot be used.

The Artillery is a placeable ranged Weapon most commonly used in siege warfare and open battles.

Unlike the Musket, Artillery requires ammunition to work: Grapeshot Canister or Roundshot. Both types of ammunition serve different functions. A direct hit from artillery is usually a guaranteed instant-kill for the target.

Blueprints for Artillery can be obtained at the Armory in spawn. It costs 12 iron block to craft Artillery with its blueprint ($32).

Controls

Main Controls

Horse Controls

Artillery can be conveniently moved by connecting it to horses. Its controls are:

  • Shift + Right-Click Artillery then Ride Horse: Connects artillery to horse
  • Shift + Right-Click Horse: Disconnects artillery

By riding the horse while the artillery is connected, you can move the artillery. Disconnect the artillery at a new location to keep it in the new location.

Types of Ammunition

Grapeshot Canister

Grapeshot

Grapeshot can fire a deadly burst of small musket balls.

It can be difficult to hit individual targets but is deadly against crowds.

It is most effective in open, wide fields

Grapeshot behave like musket balls but can insta-kill targets.

Roundshot

Roundshot

Roundshot fires a single large cannonball.

Unlike grapeshot, roundshot can damage both blocks and entities.

When it explodes near a player, it may temporarily blind them.

Roundshot is great at damaging fortified wall structures.

Artillery can use either type of ammunition. To select a specific type, hold the ammo you want to fire as you right-click to fire.

Trivia

  • Artillery has a demo version at the Spawn's Shooting Range. Its ammunition has a red background to distinguish it.
  • The roundshot's whiz effect comes from Cinesound's Library. You may recognize the sound in Sergey Bondarchuk's 1970 film Waterloo.
